I am a self-taught artist and work from my home studio in Hertfordshire. I have had a long career as a hairdresser which I have foud was a great way to express my creativity and am also a pet bereavement support volunteer with the Blue Cross. Animals, especially dogs have a big place in my heart and I find volunteering for the Blue Cross is a good way to give back to society.
There is quite an eclectic feel to my art as I constantly transition from one medium and style to another.
I am often drawn to featuring animals in my art. in the past when doing animal portraits using high quality lightfast artist pencils, I strived to create realism and loved working on their eyes. I feel the eyes give an insight into the animal and brings the portrait life.
When animals now find their way into my paintings there is often a touch of make believe, a link to the magical world I lived in as a child when your imagination could run free.
I love creating semi-abstract atmospheric land and seascapes. Working mainly in watercolour for these I gain a sense of calm as the loose and simplistic image gains depth and emotion that engages with people on a personal level, allowing each person to conjure their own story.
My art came to the forefront of my life again during the pandemic, lockdown gave me the opportunity to throw myself into my art. Creativity is important to me, it allows me to be myself and nourishes my souls. It helps to give me a sense of mental wellbeing and makes me truly present in the moment.
I truly believe that art is a journey of discovery that never ends. It lifts me when others get enjoyment from my work
I became a member of the longstanding Herts Visual Arts, and my artworld expanded. The support from this local art community has helped me continue to push the boundaries of my work and my enjoyment of it.
I have work on display at the renowned Marldleybury Galley and exhibit at various shows and exhibitions throughout the year.
